The Commonwealth Government and all Australian state and territory Governments have signed an Intergovernmental Gene Technology Agreement (the Agreement) which relates to the establishment and maintenance of a nationally consistent regulatory system.

To achieve this outcome, the Agreement acknowledges that consultation is required to obtain stakeholder views and inform assessment of any proposed change. Stakeholder involvement in the development of gene technology policy is an ongoing arrangement.
